I am so excited about this cake. I made it for an event that is taking place at my house this weekend. It is going to be A Handmade Holiday open house. My friend Amy, from Gabriel's Good Tidings,will be there selling lots of great sewn items, my sweet sister Sarah, from Lilyfly's Garden, will be there selling her gorgeous jewelry, and her friend Kristen, from Knots of Love, will be selling adorable hair bows.

This cake is actually a "dummy" cake. It is fake! Instead of cake it is Styrofoam. All the outer work is real though! This is an idea if you are wanting to cut costs at your wedding. A fake cake supplemented by sheet cake or cupcakes. This is what I did at my wedding and we saved a lot of money!

My First Wedding Cake

I almost don't know where to begin....I will start by saying this is by far my favorite cake! Not so much because of how it turned out but because of who it was for.

This wedding cake was for two very special friends, David and Heather. I have known Heather since I was in the 4th grade. She is such an amazing strong woman, who would do anything for anyone. She met her sweetie David a while back. They since have had a son, whom was diagnosed with a rare but serious cancer called neuroblastoma. His name was Daxton Cole , and you can ready his story by following this link. He did not win his fight with cancer, but is rejoicing, free from pain in Heaven. This little boy, Daxton, was a treasure that cannot be fully described in words. It has been 7 months since the day he has passed and I he is greatly missed, in saying that I also know his life has impacted more people than I can count in this short time he was with us. I strongly encourage you to read his story...your life will be changed for doing so.

Since Daxton's passing, his parents, Heather and David, have gotten married and are expecting a new little one! She is due in February. I am so excited to see what God has in store for this family that I am grateful to know. My faith has been enlarged by all of their lives.

So you all can imagine that I was greatly humbled when I was asked to make their wedding cake! This was the best "first" wedding cake I could have ever experienced. Heather was by far the most laid back bride I have ever met! This cake was a true honor and joy. Please enjoy!

The colors were light blue and brown. They used hydrangeas, so I did cupcakes to match the hydrangeas!

So fun!

My friend Julie is an amazing photographer in the Orlando area, and took their pictures. She also took this amazing one of my cake! Thank you Julie!

They are in a book club together, so hence the figure holding the book!

This cake was hard, it was my first figurine I have ever made out of fondant.

I need lots more practice!! This cake was fun to make!

The theme of the party was The Fresh Beat Band.

I just wanted to make a cake that matched the fun colors in the show.

The Baby Bum Cake

This cake was made for a very dear friend for her baby shower.

Her sweet sister asked me to do it.

And when she requested the baby bum, I will have to say at first I was unsure.

Just didn't know what it would be like to cut into a baby bum!

After I started making the cake, I loved it!!!

I think it turned out pretty well, and the mommy to be loved it as well!!!

Birthday Cake Party

My sweet niece Lily had a birthday

(quite a while ago, I am just FINALLY updating my blog!)

and she had a lot of different ideas for what she wanted for a cake.

She landed on the idea of having all her friends over for a cake decorating party!

SO, I made mini cakes for each guest and supplied them with fondant cut outs,

fondant, paintbrushes and water bowls.

And the rest was up to them and this is how it turned out:

Oh my!! Yet another cake that was a HUGE joy to make! You see it was for a very special little boy, Ethan!! He just turned one. His momma is a very dear friend to me!

She has been such an encouragement to me in our new stage in life of motherhood! And Ethan is Zeke's buddy!

Our great friends Glenn and Caroline are having a baby!

Well Caroline will be having the baby! And it's going to be a boy!!!!

And I was so thankful to make the cake for their baby shower!

As you can see the theme was jungle. Too cute!

It was a lot of fun making all the animals.

I heard there were some kids at the shower who were fighting over who got to eat

A Small Wedding Celebration!

What a neat cake to make! This was for a good friend whose mother just remarried, and they were having a small family celebration for the new couple.

Did I mention that her mother is in her 70's!

She is such a sweet lady, and I was so flattered to be asked to make this cake for her and her new main squeeze!

The initials are B H R. Not exactly like I wanted them, but I am learning!

Free hand work is so hard! All the decoration was done in royal icing.

This was my first time using it and I think I have a long way to go!

I always use any extra batter, so cuppies are such a nice thing to "throw" in with a cake!

These were my first cuppies that I have ever used fondant on.

I sure hope the newlyweds enjoy their celebration and their cake!

Zeke's 1st Birthday!!!!!!

This is my favorite cake so far!

Not so much because of the way it looks but for who I made it for! My sweet little Zeke!

I cannot believe my baby is 1!! What an amazing joy he has been to A and I this past year.

What an amazing God we serve, and what an amazing gift He has given us in Zeke!

My sweet momma helped me with it. She made all of the cute animals and the garden.

She was lifesaver for sure. If it weren't for her I would have been up all night!

That garden is so cute, I could just eat it up...

And I did!

The other kiddos loved eating all the animals!

This was Zeke's smash cake. He LOVED it!!

I have been sneaking him icing here and there, so I wasn't too surprised!

This cake was a joy to do. You see it was for a very special little girl, Emmy!

She was turning 5 and wanted a pretty pink and purple cake with polka dots! So girly! I love those kinds of cakes! Her momma also put in an order for 22 cupcakes for Emmy to take to school and share with her friends. Lots of fun I say!

It was kind of nerve wracking sending this cake on its way. I always get nervous. You never know what people will think, not to mention if they will like how it tastes!

I did receive some great news from her mom though, after they picked up the cake, Emmy said, "My cake is not good, not great, but BRILLIANT!"

Needless to say, I slept well knowing that!!

Cake Decorating Class

So! I have been taking a cake decorating class, at my not so local Micheal's.

You see I drive about a half hour so that I can take cake decorating classes from Edna De La Cruz! She is pretty much amazing at what she does! Click here to see her website. You can also watch her how to videos on you tube for some AWESOME pointers!

I have mentioned a few times how hard it is to work with butter cream. I am learning! This was my first cake for class. Nothing to amazing, but very fun to do! Edna says it takes about a year to master butter cream...ugh!

They Are Having a Baby!!

So of course I had to bake!

I have been dying to try this technique on butter cream.

Not so great!

Have I mentioned butter cream is HARD to work with??

I cannot WAIT until my cake decorating class!

I also have been dying to make a mini cake!

This is a 3 layer 4"x2" cake.

I used pink and blue because they don't know what they are having....yet.

The cake is 2 layers of chocolate and 1 layer of vanilla.

The icing is vanilla butter cream. YUM.

Our family cannot wait for Glen and Caroline to join the ranks of parenthood!

These cuppies were for another dancer, but this time she was a tiny dancer!

You see there was a dance recital this past weekend.

And everyone loves to celebrate with some sweets!

The after party for this tiny dancer was at her grandma's after the big show!

Her sweet momma placed the order.

She requested that the cuppies would match her tiny little dancers costume.

You guessed it- white with red polka dots!

And every tiny dancer needs some tulle.

Even the big dancers need some tulle.

Come to think of it, every girl needs some tulle!

I wasn't super pleased because of some fondant issues.

Lets just say talking on the phone while decorating is not a good idea!

A Baby Shower and A Cake

So this is it. The cake I made for my very dear friend Stacy. She lives in CA and came home to Sarasota for a baby shower. What a great time we had! She had no clue that I was baking her a cake and the look on her face was priceless!!

The shower was a huge success! It was put on by another great friend, Christy. It was a mini High School reunion in fact! We had such a great time showering Stacy with gifts, baby girl gifts!! I love these sprinkles! These cuppies were just for fun, I am trying to learn how to use butter cream. One would think it is easy to work with by looking at it. THINK AGAIN! Definitely going to HAVE to take a cake decorating class to

Polka Dots and Daisies Cake

This is my second fondant cake. I made it for my sister Sarah’s jewelry party .(http://www.lilyflysgarden.etsy.com/)

It was my practice run. I am going to make a similar cake for a very dear friend’s baby shower. Shhh….she doesn’t know yet!

I wanted to post the whole process, but unfortunately the pictures of the process did not come out. It was a whole mix up with Sarah’s camera card(my fault). Oh well, more pics and the process next time!

The bottom was a two layer 9” round cake. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream. The top was a two layer 6” round cake. It was a sour cream cake with vanilla butter cream.

Ruby's Birthday Cake

Oh my!!! This was my first fondant cake and boy was I nervous!!

So many little mistakes, but in the end I was happy with it!

I found ribbon to match and everything! Handmade the tag.

She turned 2! What a big girl!!! I guess she loved the cake,
she kept wanting to play with it!!

Yum....if I do say so myself! The cake was a sour cream cake with butter cream icing and blueberries, and strawberries. The birthday girl is a berry fan!

My First Cake

OK all! So this is it! My first cake. It was so yummy-according to my momma! It was a 3 layer, 6-inch round chocolate mayonnaise cake, with chocolate quick-butter icing! It was intended to look like a sunflower, but use your own judgement! It was very fun to make and started the "bug" to bake:)! I did not take pictures of the process but stay tuned for future posts because I am starting to use the camera more and more! Thanks for tuning in!!

p.s. mayo may sound gross to some, but it makes the cake exceptionally moist!
